Test Code FSH Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
Performing Laboratory
Hunterdon Medical Center Laboratory
Useful For
FSH is secreted by the anterior pitutary in repsonse to gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) secreted by the hypothalmus. In both males and females, FSH secretion is regulated by a balance of feedback mechanisms involving the hypothalmic-pituitary axis, the reproductive organs, and the pituitary and sex organs. FSH and LH (Luteinizing Hormone) play a critical role in maintaining the normal function of the male and female reproductive systems.
