Useful For
The evaluation of folate (folic acid) levels along with Vitamin B12 can be helpful in the diagnosis of anemia. Folate and Vitamin B12 are essential to the normal development of red blood cells and deficiency can result in Pernicious Anemia. Folate deficiency is most often due to low dietary intake, but can also be caused by malabsorption, pregnancy and some drugs.
Special Instructions
Note: Methotrexate and Leucovorin interfere with folate measurement.
