Useful For
Vitamin B12 and folate are essential for erythrocyte maturation and some neuronal functions. Pernicious anemia is a macrocytic anemia caused by a deficiency of Vitamin B12.
Vitamin B12 is obtained only from animal proteins and requires intrinsic factor for absorption.
Vitamin B12 and folate should be measured simultaneously when evaluating macrocytic anemia.
