Test Code FOBI Fecal Occult Blood, Colorectal Cancer Screen, Immunochemical
Performing Laboratory
Hunterdon Medical Center Laboratory
Useful For
Immunochemical occult blood screening detects the presence of small quantities of blood in the stool. The test is an aid in the detection of lower gastrointestinal bleeding. Medical conditions associated with lower gastrointestinal bleeding include: colorectal cancer, iron deficiency anemia, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, polyps, and adenomas.
Annual screening for colorectal cancer in adults at average risk, age 50-75 years, reduces colorectal cancer mortality.
The InSure® ONE™ test is specific for human hemoglobin and requires no dietary restrictions.
