Useful For

Determining the immune status of individuals to the varicella-zoster virus. VZV virus is the causitive agent of chicken pox and shingles. 

Documentation of previous varicalla-zoster infection in an individual with no previous record of immunization.

  The presence of detectable IgG class antibodies indicates prior eposure to the varicella-zoster virusthrough infection or vaccination. Individuals testing positive are considered immune.
