Useful For
Semen is examined for the presence of sperm following a vasectomy. The examination takes place 12 weeks following the procedure and is repeated two weeks later.
Special Instructions
1. Specimen is collected by masturbation into a clean dry container with a screw top lid. The container is normally supplied by the physician's office, but may be picked up from the laboratory.
2. The entire ejaculate must be collected into container.
3. If the doctor's office has supplied a special untreated condom for this purpose, the entire contents of the condom must be placed in the container. Do not return the specimen in the condom.
4. Label container with name, birthdate, date and time of collection.
5. Maintain the specimen as close to body temperature as possible, particularly in cold weather.
6. Deliver to Out Patient Laboratory within 1 hour of collection. (Monday-Friday 8AM-10AM)
Note: Abstinence is recommended for 3 to 5 days prior to testing.

Reject Specimen Due To
1. Container leakage.
2. Patient has not followed special instructions (above) and transport temperature.
