Useful For
Prenatal screening (35-37 weeks gestation): Group B Strep carriers can be identified and given antimicrobial prophylaxis during delivery to redule the risk to the neonate. This test is recommended only for patients who are known to be penicillin-allergic.
If PCR result is POSITIVE, culture and susceptibility testing will be reflexed automatically. Group B Streptococci are susceptible to penicillin, ampicillin and cefazolin. When susceptibility testing is performed clindamycin and vancomycin will be reported.

Culture method with susceptibility testing will be reflexed automatically if NAA results are positive.
