Useful For
Prenatal screening (35-37 weeks gestation): Group B Strep carriers can be identified and given antimicrobial prophylaxis during delivery to reduce the risk to the neonate.
Special Instructions
Susceptibility testing is not required unless patient is penicillin- allergic*; the addition of a culture to recover the organism for susceptibility testing may be requested by the physician within one week of receiving a positive PCR result.
