Useful For

Serum ferritin levels may be measured to evaluate the iron status of a patient. Ferritin level has a direct correlation to the total amount of iron stored in the body. Serum Iron, Total Iron Binding Capacity and Iron Saturation, may be included in this evaluation.

Ferritin levels are useful in the evaluation of anemia and iron overload disorders. (e.g.Hemachromatosis) Ferritin is an acute phase reactant. It may be elevated in hepatic, malignant or chronic inflammatory disorders.
