Sterile container, moisten with sterile non-bacteriostatic saline, if necessary.
Anaerobic collection device.
Specimen Type
- Tissues collected surgically are the best type of specimens for culture.
- Proper preparation of the wound prior to specimen collection using cleansing and debridement techniques can minimize contamination.
Specimen Transport Temperature
Ambient: Deliver within 30 minutes.
Specimen Stability Information
Ambient: 24 hours.
Reject Due To
Do not allow tissue to dry out; a small amount of sterile non-bacteriostatic saline may be added to prevent drying during transport.
Specimens collected in formalin cannot be cultured.
