Special Instructions
Patient should be passing greater than or equal to three (3) diarrheal stools per day.
Specimen Required
May be collected in “Top hat” or clean bed pan. Do not contaminate with urine or use toilet paper to collect.
1. Clean, wide mouth container, volume ≥2 grams.
2. Clean Vial (Para-Pak White Cap)
Specimen Type
Stool Specimen, unformed.
Specimen Transport Temperature
Ambient: Deliver within 1 hour.
Refrigerate 2-8°C: Deliver within 48 hours.
Specimen Stability Information
Ambient 15-30°C: 24 hours
Refirgerated 2-8°C: 5 days.
Reject Due To
Formed or hard stools are rejected.
Duplicate testing will not be performed within the same episode of symptoms (10 days).
Notify Microbiology if reinfection is suspected.
Not intended for use as test of cure.
