Test Code TIBC Total Iron-Binding Capacity
Performing Laboratory
Hunterdon Medical Center Laboratory
Useful For
Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) is a measurement for the maximum iron concentration that transferrin can bind.TIBC varies in disorders of iron metabolism. TIBC is increased in iron deficiency and decreased in chronic inflammatory disorders, malignancies and hemachromatosis.
